Freeze ’Em for Later
Want Your California Avocados to Last Longer? Try Freezing Them!
Freezing avocados is a simple way to enjoy ethically sourced California Avocados beyond their peak season (typically spring through summer). Whether you’ve got an abundance of ripe avocados or just want to extend their shelf life, freezing is a great solution to prevent waste and keep enjoying that creamy goodness later on.
Whole Avocados (Unpeeled):
Yes, you can freeze whole avocados! Just place uncut, unpeeled avocados directly into the freezer — no prep needed. When you’re ready to use them, thaw the avocados and use immediately. Keep in mind that once thawed, they can become mushy and brown quickly, so it’s best to use them right away. Whole frozen avocados typically last up to 2 weeks to a month in the freezer.
Mashed Avocados:
Prefer to freeze them mashed? Peel and pit the avocados. Mash to your desired consistency—we recommend leaving them slightly chunky. Stir in a little lemon juice to help preserve color and flavor. Spoon into snack-size, freezer-safe zip-top bags. Remove as much air as possible, seal and flatten before freezing. For added protection, store the smaller bags inside a larger freezer bag.
