The McIntyre family has been farming in California for four generations and growing avocados for three. In 1957 Samuel McIntyre began to grow California Avocados and over time he and his son Scott McIntyre became known as pioneers of farm management. Scott’s son Hayden grew up in California Avocado groves and always knew being an avocado grower and farm manager was what he wanted to do. He helped in the groves from a young age, and after college studies to learn about finance, in 2016 Hayden joined the family business.
The McIntyre’s farming practices has changed over the years as they gained experience and developed a passion for regenerative agriculture. They use solar power and have implemented bee-friendly farming practices. Part of multiple irrigated lands management groups, the McIntyre groves use different water conservation practices where they make the most sense, such as drip irrigation and water telemetry. They work to improve soil health and use natural leaf mulch, and maintain conservation buffer zones on their groves. Hayden says, “Your business partner is Mother Nature. And you’ve got to be friends with your business partner and your business partner will be friends with you.”
Hayden’s favorite way to eat California Avocados is avocado toast with lemon pepper. He loves California Avocados on omelets, burgers and hot dogs, and in salads, sandwiches, guacamole, tacos and burritos. Hayden also uses California Avocados to make desserts like brownies!
